MARINE Fund Cymru welcomes contributions from organisations and individuals who want to support the recovery and resilience of Wales’s marine and coastal environment.
To protect the integrity and independence of the Fund, all proposed contributions are considered through an ethical contributions process managed by WCVA, as the organisation responsible for administering MARINE Fund Cymru.
This process helps ensure that contributions:
- align with the aims of MARINE Fund Cymru
- are consistent with WCVA’s values
- meet relevant legal, charitable and governance requirements
- do not create unacceptable ethical, environmental, financial or reputational risks
Due diligence
All prospective contributors are subject to proportionate due diligence before a contribution is accepted. This may include checks on publicly available information, such as ownership, source of funds, sanctions, financial information, environmental and reputational risk, conflicts of interest, adverse media coverage and other relevant public information.
Some sectors or contributors may require additional checks because of the nature of their activities, ownership or potential impact on nature, climate, communities or public trust.
WCVA may refuse or return a contribution where accepting it could conflict with the aims of MARINE Fund Cymru, WCVA’s values, charity law requirements, or the need to protect public trust.
Independence
Contributions to MARINE Fund Cymru do not give contributors influence over grant decisions, policy positions, regulatory decisions, marine planning decisions or the work of WCVA, Welsh Government, Natural Resources Wales, The Crown Estate, CaSP Cymru or Steering Group members.
Acceptance of a contribution does not imply endorsement of a contributor’s wider activities, products, services, applications, licences or policy positions.
Contributions must not be used to suggest regulatory approval, environmental compliance, mitigation, compensation, offsetting or preferential treatment unless this has been formally agreed, evidenced and communicated by the appropriate competent authority.
Recognition and transparency
MARINE Fund Cymru may recognise contributors publicly, for example on the Fund’s website or in relevant communications. Recognition will be proportionate and managed carefully to avoid any suggestion of endorsement or influence.
Accepted contributions will be recorded and reported in WCVA’s accounts where required. Confidential due diligence records will be retained internally for audit and governance purposes.
Review
The Ethical Contributions Policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains appropriate, effective and aligned with the aims of MARINE Fund Cymru and WCVA’s governance requirements.
